Saint-Émilion | Premier Grand Cru Classé
La Gaffelière was one of the original Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion in 1955. 2010 was the driest year in Bordeaux since 1949, and cool nights kept the acidity high, giving big, structured wines. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Critics describe red, blue and black fruit, plum and cherry liqueur, crushed rock, graphite and forest floor, with liquorice, smoke and toasty oak. The tannins are firm and chewy and the acidity precise.
