La Tour Carnet is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. Its château is a medieval fortress, complete with moat and drawbridge, and Bernard Magrez has owned it since 1999. 2003 was the heatwave vintage, with August temperatures above 40°C, and it produced opulent, low-acid wines with roasted fruit. This La Tour Carnet is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Critics describe plum, fig, blackcurrant and black raspberry, with roast coffee, toast and earth, in a full-bodied, round style with fine tannins and low acidity.
