The 2011 was the last vintage Latour sold en primeur. Since then the estate has released each vintage only when it judges the wine ready to drink. 2011 was an uneven year in the Médoc, with a hot, dry spring and a cold July, and only 34% of Latour's crop went into the Grand Vin. The blend is 84.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot. Critics describe cassis, raspberry, rose and mint, cedar, crushed rock and ink, with firm tannins.
Fresher and lighter than Latour's great vintages, and still firm. It rewards time.
